Deepak K. Tempe MD, FRCA (London), FAMS, FIACTA, FTEE, FICA is a cardiac anaesthesiologist of great repute. A graduate of Government Medical College, Nagpur, he moved to the GB Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (earlier GB Pant Hospital), New Delhi, in 1982 and developed the cardiac anaesthesia services and postoperative critical care at this Institute. He worked as the Dean of the prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, from 2013 to 2017. He was designated as the Professor of Excellence by the Government of India in 2018 and he superannuated from the government service in 2020. Presently, he is the Visiting Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi, and a few other institutions in India. A recipient of the prestigious Dr BC Roy National Award as an eminent medical teacher, Prof Tempe enjoys excellent reputation as a teacher, researcher, and cardiac anaesthesiologist not only in India, but internationally also. He was awarded the honorary fellowship by the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA, London), an honour that every anaesthesiologist in the world aspires to achieve. He has contributed a chapter in the most famous book on anaesthesia in the world, Miller's Anesthesia (7th and 8th editions). He has been the chief editor of the Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia and the editorial board member of the British Journal of Anaesthesia and the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia among others. He is presently the section editor of the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. He has widely travelled around the world as an invited faculty for the various conferences, including the World Congress of Anaesthesiologists and the European Congress of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists.
