The first edition of Pediatric Intensive Care Protocols was published in 2011. The book was very well received by the postgraduates, intensivists, and practicing pediatricians. Ongoing research and experience have helped in better understanding of the pathophysiology of illnesses and improved management. It is important to update existing protocols with the new evidence to translate research from lab to improved patient care. We are happy to present the revised and enlarged eighth edition of the protocols’ book.

The book has been extensively revised and updated; many new chapters have been added to for comprehensive care of critically sick children. We sincerely thank all the contributors–the faculty and residents of the department. We also express our appreciation for the team at the Indian Journal of Pediatrics for facilitating the timely publication of this book.
